Birney Elementary – Outstanding School Partner of the Year
Selected as Outstanding School Partner of the Year by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce for 2009-2010! Birney Elementary School has made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the eighth consecutive year! Birney is one of only a few schools within the Cobb County school district that hold this honor. It has also started its second year of standard school attire (SSA). Birney has also turned to the local community to become involved in education. Past year’s partners include Vinings Lake Church, Chick-fil-A (Macland Crossing), Barnes and Noble (Cumberland). Brown Elementary School was awarded a Silver status from the Governor’s Office and along with King Springs Elementary School was one of two schools in Smyrna out of 36 across the state to be given an award of this type. Read more…

Imagine International Academy of Smyrna
Don’t let the name fool you. This International Baccalaureate magnet school is a public school, so it is free. The school opened in 2007 and is helping our young children for an increasingly global world. Imagine International Academy of Smyrna is a public charter school serving students in K – 8th grade who are residents of Cobb County. Located in a great new home, IIAS offers students a challenging curriculum in a safe environment that promotes learning, healthy relationships and fun.
King Springs Elementary School Wins Platinum Award
King Springs Elementary in Smyrna, Georgia became one of just elementary 36 schools in Cobb Country, Georgia to win a Platinum Award for showing greatest improvement. This places the school in top 2% according to Area Superintendent Dale Gaddis. Wonderful things keep happening at King Springs under the leadership of Principal Linda Keeney. 35% of the students exceeded standards which means that they scored above 850 versus the 800 required to meet the standards. Ms. Nicole Pfleger, was voted the Elementary Counselor of the Year for Cobb County. Family Fun & Fitness Night on Thursday, February 4. Book Fair kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 10 AM to 2 PM. We raised $1225.00 during our “Hearts for Haiti” drive. Read more…

Russell Elementary
Russell Elementary has now made Title I Distinguished School status for seven years. Russell has a uniformed school-wide dress code this school year. The school has a tradition of excellence going back to 1961 when it was built on land donated by the family of the late Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice, Richard B. Russell. Read more…
